November 2022

As of November 17, 2022, I have officially completed my journey as a New York City Department of Education Photography Teacher. Working with all the amazing students throughout the years has been an absolute honor and privilege.

Witnessing the growth, creativity, and passion of each student has been truly inspiring. From capturing heartfelt moments to exploring new artistic perspectives, we embarked on an exciting journey together.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the incredible students I had the pleasure of teaching. Your dedication, curiosity, and eagerness to learn have made teaching photography a rewarding experience. I have no doubt that each of you will continue to excel and make a significant impact with your artistic endeavors.

I would also like to extend my gratitude to my colleagues for their support, collaboration, and shared love for education. Together, we created an environment where students could thrive and grow.

While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye, I am filled with optimism as I look ahead to new chapters in my life and career. The memories and lessons learned from each of you will always hold a special place in my heart.

Sincerely,

Ilona Lieberman

Below is my welcome letter shared with parents/guardians at the beginning of the school year.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome! I’m Ms. Ilona Lieberman, your child’s photography teacher. I’m passionate about cultivating their interest in this democratic art form.

As an editorial photographer with a Bachelor of Art in Film Production from Brooklyn College, a Master of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, and an Advanced Diploma in School Leadership & Technology from the New York Institute of Technology, I bring extensive expertise to the classroom.

In my class, we focus on digital storytelling, combining images and text to create engaging narratives. Students explore cultural, social, and artistic concepts, developing critical skills in today’s media-driven world.

I believe every child is uniquely creative, with limitless potential. Public school students deserve a holistic education that nurtures their mind and body.

We start with visual arts language, then progress to students producing their own artistic stories. These activities foster communication, collaboration, and artistic freedom, integrating social, writing, photography, and technology skills. Class rules, expectations, and assignments can be found on this site. Feel free to share your ideas and concerns.

I’m excited for a year of growth, creativity, and opportunity. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please reach out to me. Stay safe!

Sincerely,

Ms. Ilona Lieberman
