{}, {} – {} {}: CAPTION INFO: In 2006, Liu Yi began painting in secret, faces meant to represent those killed in the 1989 crackdown. For years, Liu Yi said he showed his painting to no one except his wife and a handful of close friends, not wanting to alienate dealers for his commercial Buddhist work or attract trouble from authorities. I cant explain why but I felt a need to do something for the people who died, he said in an interview at his home in a rural Eastern suburb of Beijing.
