This is a beautiful documentary film about the artistic practice and experiences of portrait photographer Elsa Dorfman.
I had the pleasure of working with the 20X24 Poloroid Camera several time in both Los Angeles and New York City as a photo assistant in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. It was a wonderful experience. I saved full body portraits of myself but Hurrican Sandy in 2012 destroyed my entire archive and equipment, including my precious 4X5 1940’s Crown Graphics I used to make Polaroid Type 55 prints. A series of images I created for MoCCA of several prominent comic arts was sponsored by Polaroid and the images are part of their permanent collection.
“In The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography, Errol Morris explores the life of a gifted analog photographer facing a digital present. Dorfman, with whimsical charm and wit, gives her longtime friend a tour of her backyard garage-turned-archive.”
