Refer to the photographic compositional link above for ideas and accurate terms to describe the images, then choose three concepts, for example:
  • Speak about the camera angle, lens choice, background, the props and lighting.
  • Does the image follow the rule of thirds (explain)?
  • Describe the compositional elements; shape / form, line, space, value, texture and color within the image.
  • Describe the compositional principles; emphasis, balance, unity, contrast, movement / rhythm and pattern / repetition within the images.

  1. This image is taken at side close up angle. It does follow the rule of thirds because the head and the ear of the subject hit the points. This image has texture and has high contrast. (HD feel from the texture)

    • Please explain what you mean with “this image represents value”. Each idea should be written in individual sentences. You must explain why you believe an image follows the rule of thirds.

  2. this image really shows a rich color introducing with the man in the image, this image has high contrast and it does not have the rule of thirds.

  3. This image has high contrast and is in black and white. It’s a close up because you can see all the details of his ear. There is shallow depth of field. This image follows the rule of thirds because the ear hits a focal point. Also there are many curves.

  4. This image is very high in value and contrast. This image follows the rule of thirds because the guys ear is more towards the right.Theres texture and shape like on his head and the shape of his ear.

  5. The image follows the Rule of Thirds, because the ear is not located directly in the center. There is high value and contrast too. There is a range of tone and texture, and there is little space in the image.

  6. The main emphasis in this image is his ear. There are lines that leads the eye because of the position his face is in. This image follows the rule of thirds because it is off center. Also, it has high contrast because of the different shades.

  7. This image follows the Rule of Thirds because the ear is in thew middle, if the ear is the subject. If it is not, then it still follows the Rule of Thirds because it touches all of the focal points. There this a sort of line from the higher part of the ear to the lower part of the ear that leads the eye. There is high contrast because there are dark darks and light lights

  8. The image is high in contrast. The image also follows the rule of thirds. It leads the the eye which is emphasis.
